Here is my personal translation of what is happening in America right now. Please bear with me, as music enables me to process information so that I can better understand what’s happening myself. Also please keep in mind while you’re reading this, that I’m not talking conspiracy theories. I’m not really into much of that, but I’m not so naive to believe that there isn’t corruption in high, and powerful places. I don’t know who, I just know, as an observer, that things are suspicious, coincidental, simply not right. Otherwise, how could we be that stupid to allow things to have gotten so bad?!?!
Have you ever heard the song The Devil Went Down to Georgia? If you live in America, especially the south, then you most certainly have heard this song. I personally love it because it’s fast, but I’ve always struggled with the story line.
The story is that the devil went down to Georgia with a golden fiddle, because he was desperate for souls. He challenged an awesome fiddle player to a fiddling contest. The Devil told Johnny that if he played better than him, he would get the golden fiddle. Johnny took the Devil’s bet, and of course beat him, and received the golden fiddle.
So, here is my problem with the story… You never, ever make a bet with the Devil. Even as a kid I knew this. You don’t make a bet with the Devil, and seriously, if you do, and you win, do you really think the Devil would honor the bet? He’s the Devil!! The Devil does nothing with honorable intentions, and even if he loses, he will get something in return.
I’m sure you’re wondering where I’m going with this, and I’m about to break it down for you… in lyrics, and my explanations after them. This is fairly long…
“Well the Devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin’ for a soul to steal
He was in a bind ’cause he was way behind
And he was willin’ to make a deal”
The Devil needed his souls and he was getting desperate. The Devil here represents those who wish to do us harm, whether by violence or by passive aggressive behaviors, like keeping us uneducated, keeping us angry, brainwashing us. To me the Devil represents our politicians, our media, our religious leaders, our government leaders. Anytime they see a slight dissent, they need to bump up their game. They need to keep us angry, and brainwashed. I’m not going to go into detail to make people feel better. Let’s read the rest of this knowing that I’m not referring to all religious leaders, government leaders, and media. Only the corrupt ones. If you’re offended by this then you probably should be.
“When he came across this young man
Sawin’ on a fiddle and playin’ it hot
And the Devil jumped up on a hickory stump
And said, “Boy, let me tell you what”
This was it! The Devil saw his chance at gaining a soul. Maybe a LOT more than one soul, but he had to start somewhere, and Johnny was his best bet. If he was able to get Johnny sucked in, he’d be able to get more to follow Johnny. The leaders (religious and governmental), the political groups, the media, jump on the next soul they can steal, sway, and buy. They need to keep the cards stacked or their agendas will never succeed, and their agendas don’t include the greater good of the citizens. These are personal agendas that benefit their financial and social gains, no matter what. Let me state this again… No matter what.
“You probably didn’t know it
But I’m a fiddle player too
And if you care to take a dare
I’ll just make a bet with you”
“Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy
But give the Devil his due
I’ll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul
I think I’m better than you”
Here we go. Now the story gets good. The Devil challenges Johnny because he knows Johnny’s ego is bigger than Johnny himself. He knows Johnny will jump at the challenge. The Devil’s ego matches Johnny’s, which excites the Devil. He could use a soul such as Johnny’s around. What a tremendous boost it would be. The groups and leaders that run our country need more people like them. They are easy enough to spot, too. They can find these people through social channels, internet, etc. They are able to identify those who are easily swayed, and then groom them into what they wish them to be.
“The boy said, “My name’s Johnny
And it might be a sin
But I’m gonna take your bet, you’re gonna regret
I’m the best there’s ever been”
“Johnny you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard
‘Cause hell’s broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose the Devil gets your soul”
Ah, Johnny isn’t against committing a sin because he thinks he will win. If he will win, then why not, right? This is what makes Johnny so perfect for the Devil. He’s able to justify his sin, because he thinks he’s better than the Devil, but according to most Bible beaters, sin is NOT justifiable. Look at Johnny, a good ol’ southern boy… probably a Bible beater himself. Here, Johnny represents every single person who has justified their own sins as being okay, because hey, times have changed, and Leviticus is in the Old Testament, much like any statement that has to do with homosexual sin, which was never directly addressed in the the Bible, by the way. When it is addressed in Leviticus (remember times have changed), it is always in reference to other sins, like cheating on your spouse, or having sex with slaves and servants.
SO Johnny, and his great big ego, decides to take the Devil’s bet. He doesn’t have anything to lose, and he has everything to gain. Hell’s broke loose, to me represents, the Hell that is happening in our great USA. Yes, Hell is happening in every country, but I’m talking about ours. There is a mass shooting almost every week, and there are shooting deaths daily. Usually domestic disputes, or children playing with guns. Then you have basic robberies, carjackings, and just your run of the mill road rage which result in deaths daily. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have guns, because I myself have guns, and I’d use them if I felt threatened, or if I felt my family was threatened. What I’m saying is, we need to crack down on background checks, and the types of guns we are making available. Hunting guns, handguns, great! I’m ready to cock my shotgun if I hear someone break into my home, and blow a hole right through my bedroom door. Who needs an AR-15, though? Who? Well, Johnny does, because it is his right to own one. The devil has Johnny’s AR-15. The golden fiddle and the right to own whatever he wants, no matter what. This right is more sacred and protected than human life. *Sure make your excuses about how it won’t change things, and if someone wants it they will get it. You know what, you’re right, lets just put it right into their hands, without making it even the least bit difficult, because hey, they’re going to get it anyway, right?!
“The Devil opened up his case
And he said, “I’ll start this show”
And fire flew from his fingertips
As he rosined up his bow”
“And then he pulled his bow across the strings
And it made an evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this”
Now the show has started, and the stakes are high. The fiddle playing is frightening, chaotic. Much like society is today because who can we trust. Who has our best interests at heart. We are told we should fear Hispanics, we should fear Muslims, we should fear black people, we should fear white people, we should fear big unmarked vans, and small cars, we should fear the guy walking down the street, and we should fear our own neighbor. That’s chaotic. This fear and chaos turns to anger, the longer the Devil plays his fiddle. The bass you hear during his playing “bummmm, bummmm, bummm, bummm” (then repeated), is the sound of Bibles beating in the angry mob’s hands. The show has started… the mass shootings, the “justifiable” hate, the constant barrage of people telling us how they will make it better for us, but never really addressing how, because we really have no idea how we got here to begin with. We don’t know… we don’t know what’s really happening. We think we have the facts, but we don’t. We only know what we are supposed to know.
“When the Devil finished
Johnny said, “Well you’re pretty good old son
But you just sit down in that chair right there
I’m gonna show you how this stuff’s done”
“Fire on the mountain, run boys, run
The Devil’s in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in the bread pan pickin’ at dough
Granny does your dog bite? No child, no”
Johnny is ready to save the day, and he’s ready to get that fiddle. He plays the best he ever has, putting on a memorable show, not only for the Devil, but for everyone watching. He plays their favorite song. He gets them excited. He plays to please the crowd, but he’s really playing because he wants that fiddle. Here Johnny represents the politicians, the groups he’s trying to please. He’s charismatic, he’s intelligent, he’s talented. He’s the one the people are looking to to make things better for them. He’s the one who will push their agendas (they think), he’s the savior, but wait… isn’t that, in and of itself, a sin. Don’t think for a moment that these people flocking to these political events, being pulled in, aren’t idolizing these politicians… they are, because they’re all looking for salvation from what they perceive as our failing country. They’re looking for a savior. What they don’t understand is that we are failing because we are so divided.
“Well that ol’ Devil bowed his head
Because he knew that he’d been beat
And he laid that golden fiddle
Down on the ground at Johnny’s feet”
“Johnny said, “Devil, just come on back
If you ever wanna try again
I done told you once you son of a bitch
I’m the best there’s ever been”
Wait, what? The Devil gave in to Johnny? How is this so? The Devil, as we all know isn’t going to just give in, and admit that he was beaten. It doesn’t matter how many people witnessed the beating, that’s not going to happen. I mean, this is the Devil. Johnny is feeling quite cocky too, taking that fiddle, and laughing as the Devil goes on, with little Devil tail tucked, and the crowd goes wild, because Johnny has come to save the day. The Devil again, represents the politicians, the political groups, the religious leaders, the governmental leaders. Johnny just got bought. He represents our latest political savior, whoever you think that may be. Don’t you think for a second that Johnny will fight for our best interests. He has his golden fiddle. The sky is the limit for him. His goal is to now perpetuate the hate, the brainwashing, the division of the common citizen. That’s his goal, and the more we play into this hate, the more he wins. We cannot continue to let the Johnny, and the Devil win. We have got to start seeing things for what they are. It’s the only way we can begin to find solutions. I’m not talking a bunch of hippie love crap, and I’m not talking about a revolution. I’m talking about sticking together. Not fearing each other. We need to fear those who seem to be leading us to destruction. There is power in numbers, and we need all of the numbers we can get, because we truly do have enemies out there. That’s not a lie. Gay, straight, black, white, Muslim, Christian, red-headed, whatever, we’ve got to work together.
This most recent mass shooting… Muslim, Latino and LGBT victims… three out of four of our most vulnerable, most hate-targeted groups in the USA (There were African-American victims in this mass shooting as well, and they are one of the four hate-targeted groups). Are we so stupid?!?!
